John Milne, the inventor of the first proper seismograph in and described as “the father of seismology,” compiled a list of 4, destructive earthquakes between the years A.D. 7 and A.D. Earthquakes cease to be meaningful as signs when they are not confined to a particular period of time relevant to prophecy. December 7, Armenia. Twenty-five thousand people lost their lives in a magnitude earthquake, smaller than the Loma Prieta quake that caused 62 deaths near San Francisco a year later. Unreinforced brick and concrete buildings collapsed like houses of cards.

A Catalogue of Destructive Earthquakes. A.D. 7 to A.D. (John Milne). This is one of the best sources of information for historical earthquakes by a rock solid pioneer of the early days of seismology. The only drawback is that it lacks such things as the time of occurrence in most cases. Doesn't go into great detail for each event either. Earthquakes in Human History tells the story of that calamity and other epic earthquakes. The authors, Jelle Zeilinga de Boer and Donald Theodore Sanders, recapture the power of their previous book, Volcanoes in Human History. They vividly explain the geological processes responsible for earthquakes, and they describe how these events have had.

A magnitude earthquake rocked the Indian Ocean seabed on 17 July , km south of Pangandaran, a beach famous to surfers for its perfect waves. This earthquake triggered tsunamis with heights that varied from 2 meters at Cilacap to 6 meters at Cimerak beach, where it swept away and flattened buildings as far as metres away from the. John Milne, too, spent several years in compiling his catalog of earthquakes from all over the world. Limiting his study to destructive earthquakes only, he lists 4, destructive earthquakes between the years A.D. 7 to A.D. 51 The entries before A.D. , which "are practically confined to occurrences in Southern Europe, China, and Japan.".
